What’s amazing is that this land you see as desert today was once the floor of an  ancient sea millions of years ago. Many layers of the tuwaiq formation were formed frome marine limestone sediments deposited in shallow waters. That’s why you may sometimes notice marine traces and fossils in the rocks- evidence that  the area went through adeep marine geological history.
